How things have changed since the pandemic began. We wrapped up our 2007 Christmas trip to San Francisco with a sumptuous brunch at the Palace Hotel's Garden Court, a century-old venue that offered arguably the most extensive and luxurious Sunday jazz brunch in the city. Not only was our visit before the pandemic, it was also before the onset of the Great Recession that was about to crash upon San Francisco and the rest of the USA. San Francisco recovered handily (if unevenly) from the Great Recession, but suffered tremendously through the pandemic, not nearly recovered as yet. While the Garden Court now serves breakfast and afternoon tea, the Sunday jazz brunch is nowhere on the horizon.
