Maple Shrub Martini

Around 2015 “shrubs” made their appearance at the bar, again. These “cocktail vinegars” are based from traditional practices long ago when colonial Americans (even ancient Romans) discovered that vinegars inhibit bacteria and made for a tasty “preservative” especially when combined with past-its-time fruits. They brighten the drink and deepen the flavor of any drink with a sharp sweetness. Alas, sadly I’m too lazy to make a shrub but not to dull not to experiment with vinegars. On April 1, 2018, two days before I land on the big 70 a few friends came by bearing a pre-birthday gift. I invited them into this experiment and it got rave reviews right out of the gate.
