My variation of the "Ethel's Sugar Cookie" recipe lisaiscooking.blogspot.ca/2009/05/ethels-sugar-cookies.html I found on Lisa is Cooking is by far my favourite for the holidays - tender, flavourful and not too sweet!
Here's my version:
¼ cup salted butter (I highly recommend Gay Lea)
½ cup butter flavour shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp milk
½ tbsp vanilla
1 ½ cups flour
1 cup cake flour
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
pinch nutmeg
Cream together the butter, shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg, milk and vanilla, beating well.
Mix in the flours, cornstarch, baking powder, salt and nutmeg until a dough comes together.
Wrap in plastic and chill overnight.
Heat the oven to 400F.
Bake 6-8 minutes. Cool on the sheets.
