How To Make Om Ali (Middle Eastern Bread Pudding)
This bread pudding gets the ultimate glow up with fragrant cardamon and rose water. Ingredients— 8 oz filo pastry sheets 1 stick butter, melted ½ cup golden raisins ¼ cup dried figs, chopped ½ cup almonds ½ cup pistachios ½ cup shredded coconut 2 ½ cups milk 1 ½ cups heavy cream ⅓ cup granulated sugar ¼ tsp cardamom 1 tbsp rose water ¼ tsp salt Steps— Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush butter over each pastry sheet, scrunch each piece into a messy, loose mound, and place on baking sheets. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Once cooled, lightly crumple the filo into smaller pieces. Set aside. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, salt, cardamom, and rose water. Place on the burner and gently heat to a simmer and then set aside. Brush a baking dish with butter. Spread the filo across the bottom, followed by shredded coconut, almonds, dried figs, raisins, and pistachios on top. Repeat the layering process. Pour the milk mixture evenly throughout. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brown under the broiler if desired. Let sit for at least 5 minutes before serving.
