LA’s Best BBQ is Outside a Tire Shop... ๐๐ฅ
I’m Stephanie Izard, and today I’m following the smoke to some of the most unexpected locations in Los Angeles. ๐ต️♀️ From "Mex-Italian" fusion to a bar with no booze, and a secret goat roaster hidden behind a highway tire shop, these cooks are redefining what it means to make "Unique Eats." First, I’m headed to Amiga Amore to meet Danielle Duran. She’s combined her Mexican heritage with her husband’s Italian roots to create "Mex-Italian" cuisine. ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐น We’re making "Elote Agnolotti"—perfectly folded pasta pillows stuffed with Mexican street corn and slathered in brown butter. ๐ฝ๐ฅ In this episode: • The Mex-Italian Mashup: Danielle and I bond over being "badass" pregnant chefs as we master the art of the Agnolotti fold. ๐คฐ๐ช • Bar Nuda: I visit Pablo Murillo at his non-alcoholic, Mexican-inspired bar. ๐ฅ He’s proving that "mocktails" aren't an afterthought—we’re trying clarified coconut milk punches with shiitake mushrooms and "Sultry Slings" with libido-boosting matcha. ๐๐ต • The Tire Shop Cabrito: Pablo and I take a road trip to find El Lagunero. Run by Francisco Salinas and Vanessa Sanchez, this outdoor barbecue gem is located right next to a highway tire shop. ๐๐ Francisco built a custom roaster to cook Cabrito (young goat) "low and slow" all night long. Wait until you see the Machitos and the chickpeas in the consommรฉ! ๐ฅฃ✨ If you’re only eating at standard restaurants, you’re missing out on the most creative flavors in LA. Would you try a clarified mushroom cocktail?
