Tram Painter has added a photo to the pool:
The Aubergine, or as they call it in Australia, Eggplant.
It bears absolutely no resemblance to an egg, neither in shape, taste, colour or texture, and for years, it eluded me as to the name. Then I grew some in my garden and the answer was abundantly clear.
Wasps use it to lay their eggs in and the resulting pupae eat out the insides.Quod ed demonstrata!
