Calaveritas de Azúcar y Amaranto

These edible sugar skulls were made with homemade sugar paste pressed into mini skull molds, set aside to harden, then removed and painted with black icing.

For the amaranth candy skulls the amaranth seeds were first popped, mixed with heated honey and a pinch of salt, pressed into the same skull molds, set aside to firm up, then removed and decorated with a variety of colored icing and sprinkles.
